Today, a two-day training session for journalists and bloggers dedicated to creating gender-sensitive content concluded in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent Region.
The event was organised by the Mass Media Foundation in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund in Uzbekistan (UNFPA) and the Committee on Family and Women of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The main aim of the training was to enhance participants' knowledge about the problem of gender inequality—its types, forms, causes, and the persistence of gender stereotypes. This knowledge is intended to assist in creating content that takes into account gender-sensitive specifics and in fostering a sustainable societal attitude of intolerance towards gender-based violence.
Among those present at the training were representatives of major national media outlets, as well as journalists from regional publications and bloggers. Their audiences are very diverse—ranging from school and university-aged youth to people with disabilities.
Mamurjon Akhlidinov, chief editor of the Mediaplus project, said:
"Our project works with people with disabilities, including those with hearing impairments. They are in a particularly high-risk group. For instance, if violence is committed against a girl or woman who uses non-verbal language, she sometimes cannot even report it. Additionally, this group of people has problems accessing information, particularly information explaining what to do if you find yourself a victim. I hope that after this training, I can provide more qualified recommendations for those who have found themselves in a difficult situation."
Over the course of two days, speakers Venera Ermetova (trainer at the Civic Initiatives Support Center, national consultant for the UN Population Fund) and Kamola Alieva (PhD, specialist in gender equality) shared information on the topic in an interactive format and received feedback in the form of practical work from the participants. The dialogue was structured so that attendees not only received ready-made conclusions but also arrived at certain insights themselves.
As part of the training, a presentation was held for the Mass Media Foundation's SHE LEADS project, implemented jointly with the international non-governmental organisation Search for Common Ground. The project is dedicated to combating technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
