Draft laws related to the media have been discussed

12 - September, 2020

Today, September 12, a meeting with journalists and bloggers was held at the Mass Media Foundation, at which they discussed the draft laws related to the media that are being developed at the initiative of the president.

In particular, they analyzed in detail the consequences of the cancellation of penalties associated with imprisonment for defamation and insult for journalists, the benefits and risks that this decision may lead to.

The meeting participants also expressed their views on improving the mechanism for holding officials accountable for obstructing the activities of the media and pressure on journalists, this norm is contained in one of the drafts.

In general, the innovations envisaged by the documents under consideration were supported and recognized as very timely and relevant.

The Fund will shortly summarize all the proposals and submit them to the AIMC workgroup and the Ministry of Justice, which are responsible for the development of draft laws. We hope that taking into account the opinions of media representatives will help to create a more accurate and effective regulatory mechanism in this area.
