On February 2, 2020, a presentation of the projects of the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media took place.
As noted at the presentation, the main goal of the Public Foundation is the further development of the media and the promotion of the rights of journalists and bloggers, increasing the role of the social institution in strengthening freedom of speech in the country.
Komil Allamjonov, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of Mass Media, made a presentation and spoke about the main goals and objectives of the foundation.
“This foundation will make every effort to increase the legal knowledge of journalists and bloggers, fully protect their interests against state bodies and the government, provide financial support to the media in need, ensure freedom of speech and press in Uzbekistan. When implementing projects, the foundation will determine whether the laws and regulations of the sphere are in line with current realities, identify deficiencies and conduct research to eliminate them, and will act as a participant in the media sphere with various initiatives”, said Komil Allamjonov.
After that, Saida Mirziyoyeva, deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media, gave a speech.
“In my opinion, this Foundation is a good platform for implementing initiatives and projects that are important not only for the entire media community, but also for civil society as a whole. We believe in freedom of speech and its power. We believe that it is high-quality journalism that is necessary for the life of a democratic society”, said Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Khushnudbek Khudoiberdiev, director of the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media, spoke about the promising projects of the Foundation. In particular, he spoke about such projects as the organization of Mass-media co-working centers and an electronic platform for media vacancies, the founding of the community of Uzbek video bloggers (UzVloger) on YouTube and the creation of the facilities necessary for them, paying special attention to the training of lawyers and attorneys specializing in the media, as well as promoting the transformation of print media in difficult financial situations.
The presentation also featured the premiere of the song and video group “Sahar”, dedicated to journalists, bloggers and media representatives working in Uzbekistan.
Moreover, John McGregor, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Sherzodkhon Kudratkhodjaev, Rector of the University of Journalism and Mass Communications, and Lola Islamova, editor-in-chief of the Anhor.Uz website, made a speech at the event.
